Project Overview

Complex Cabling Work:

SeaKing Electrical was pivotal in the intricate project involving complex cabling work on the MV Hoy Head. The project necessitated splitting the ferry in half and inserting a new middle section. SeaKing’s responsibilities encompassed cutting, upgrading, and reconnecting electrical systems seamlessly through the newly added section.

Key Project Aspects:

Mapping and Upgrading Existing Electrical System:

SeaKing meticulously mapped the existing electrical system, ensuring efficient integration with the new infrastructure. The upgrade aimed at enhancing overall system efficiency.

New Propulsion Engine and Bow Thruster Installation:

A new propulsion engine and propeller unit were installed to improve operational performance. A new bow thruster was also fitted to enhance manoeuvrability, especially in challenging conditions like high winds.

Control System Integration:

The new propulsion engine, propeller unit, and bow thruster were integrated into the control systems. SeaKing ensured these systems could be controlled from the bridge and the bow.

Electrical Installation and Refurbishment Ratio:

The project involved a careful balance, with 60% dedicated to new electrical installation work and 40% focused on refurbishing the existing system. This approach maximised efficiency while optimising existing resources.

Additional Installations and Improvements:

Fire Detection Panel Installation:

SeaKing installed a state-of-the-art fire detection panel, emphasising safety measures on the vessel.

Radio and Navigation System Removal and Reinstallation:

The radio and navigation systems were temporarily removed to facilitate interior repainting, showcasing SeaKing’s commitment to holistic vessel maintenance. The systems were later meticulously reinstalled.

Auto-Pilot System Implementation:

SeaKing contributed to the vessel’s technological advancement by fitting a new auto-pilot system, enhancing navigation capabilities.

Project Significance:

This successful project is a testament to SeaKing’s proficiency in executing complex electrical upgrades, ensuring maritime vessels are equipped with cutting-edge technology for enhanced operational efficiency and safety.
